FAQs

You should consider a Second Look® review if you filed your taxes in the past three years and want to make sure everything was done right. It’s especially helpful if you think you might have missed credits or deductions, filed with someone else, or prepared your own return. The review checks for errors, missed tax breaks, and even issues that could lead to IRS notices.

The review itself is free, and there’s no cost to complete the review or receive your results. You’ll just need an H&R Block MyBlock account to view your results and chat with a tax pro.

There’s no paperwork needed. Once you provide consent, your tax pro will handle the rest.

If you decide to amend your return, there’s a fee based on the complexity of the changes and the level of service you choose. The fee for amended return services starts at $99.

Timing can vary and depends on how long it takes the IRS to deliver your tax transcript. We work through Second Look® reviews as quickly as possible while still ensuring accurate results.

H&R Block can review your tax returns from the past 3 years. After you provide consent, we’ll pull your IRS transcripts from the past 3 years and review them to help identify errors, missed credits, deductions, or other issues.

If we find missed credits, deductions, or errors, your tax pro will review the findings with you and discuss your options. If you choose to amend your return, there may be a fee based on the complexity of the changes and the level of service you select.

No. Pulling your IRS transcript is done for many reasons and has not been shown to increase audits. The information in your Second Look® review stays between you and H&R Block, and we do not notify the IRS if a mistake is found.

That letter is for information purposes only. If anything was missing, we also received the notification and are already working to fix it so we can complete your Second Look® review.

Your review will be handled by a dedicated team of Second Look® tax experts who will take care of any questions or concerns you might have and reach out if needed. You’ll still return to your regular tax pro next year for tax prep.

Yes! You can still sign up for a Second Look® review at no charge, regardless of where you originally filed your return, including TurboTax, FreeTaxUSA, a CPA firm, or another tax preparer. Schedule an appointment or visit an H&R Block office to get started.
